My career as a Physiotherapist started back in 2004 working in the NHS, doing evenings, weekends, any spare time I had really working in sports teams covering injury clinics, games, you name it I was like a sponge learning as much as I could.
An opportunity arose in 2007 – to work full time at Manchester City FC in the Academy. It was a dream job at the time, working with a great staff members and players that went on to win the youth cup. My career then progressed to Bolton Wanderers where I was appointed the head physiotherapist for the Academy (under 21’s to U9’s) and after 3 years in the academy I was promoted to the first team.
My home life and priorities had changed during my time in sport, I was married and had my first child in 2010 and second in 2014. Work hours were long and I was missing vital time with my family.
In October 2015 I made a big decision, I handed in my notice, worked out my three months and started in my own business – Matt Fox Physio in January 2016, based at Bowdon Hockey Club, South Downs road.
I was fortunate to meet the team at Start up business services (SUBS) including David Bellin and Alex McCann. David gave me valuable business advice and set up my website, Alex introduced me to the world of social media.
Prior to our meeting I didn’t even use social media on a personal level! But I knew this was very important to market my business so needed to hit the ground running. I had my 1st training session with Alex shortly after and then I returned 6 months later for more advanced training!
I started with 1 like (thanks Alex!) and I am now up to over 400 organic likes. Alex showed my how to use social media to generate leads and give value to followers. And i’ve had many people contact me for appointments following blogs, videos and useful tips I have posted. I regularly do videos on my page and blogs which increases traffic to my website.
From social media alone we increased our junior classes by 20% with social media and our adult classes by 10% with social media. It’s been a huge help
Just over 2 years on I have purchased a second business where I deliver Physiotherapy led injury prevention core and flexibility classes. The program delivers 13 classes to nearly 200 people per week which includes a junior program. I still see clients one on one for hands on treatment and individualised rehabilitation programs.
I won the Start-Up Of The Year Awards at the Altrincham Chamber Of Commerce Awards – this would not have happened without social media.
I see further expansion and helping more people get out of pain and stiffness and future proof there body. Physiocore has expanded too Bowdon Rugby Club with plans to increase classes and days there too
