25 Spare Moments

If you’re using Social Media for broadcasting and not for engaging then you’re really really missing out on the full potential of social media

Broadcast and go – it simply doesn’t work

Like face to face networking you need to talk to people, build relationships and build trust

A time audit can be a great tool for finding those 2, 5, 10 minute pockets of time for Social Media Engagement

So when you say you have no time for social media engagement – read this list of all those pockets of time you have for social media engagement

1. Whilst you lie in bed for 15 minutes before actually getting out of bed

2. Whilst you wait for the kettle to boil for your 1st morning brew

3. Walking to the car / public transport

4. Sitting on the train / tram / bus on the way to the office

5. The time in the queue at the coffee shop for the pre-work coffee

6. The 5 minutes you spend waiting for a meeting and most people are running late

7. The 5 minutes you spend looking at the clock before lunch instead of doing any work

8. The time spent waiting in the lunch queue

9. The 10 minute sales call you’re too polite to say “sorry i’m not interested” to

10. The 5 minutes you spend moaning to others in the office about the sales call

11. The time you spend deleting emails that you should really unsubscribe from, but never do

12. The mid afternoon facebook / buzzfeed quiz

13. The last 5 minutes of “work” before you leave the office

14. The time spent playing Pokemon Go on the way to the train / tram / bus

15. The time waiting at the station for the late running train / tram / bus

16. Sitting on the train / tram / bus on the way back home

17. The 5 minutes waiting for the oven to pre-heat

18. Between reps at the gym

19. On way to post gym chill

20. When friends turn up 5 minutes late on a night out

21. When friends go to the bar on a night out

22. In taxi on way home

23. The advert breaks during your favourite show

24. The 30 minutes you flick around TV channels every single night, but never watch anything

25. Before you go to bed (in night mode of course)

So to recap
1. Acknowledge that Broadcasting and go doesn’t work on Social Media
2. Remind yourself of what you’re trying to achieve via social media
3. Do a time audit of the spare moments you have every day
4. Choose from the above those that fit your routine / day to day
5. Realise you don’t have to be always on – but you do have to turn up every day
5. Commit to turning up every day for Social Media Engagement – no excuses
