There’s something different when you walk through Selfridges

Harry Gordon Selfridge promoted the completely new notion to British people of shopping for ‘pleasure rather than necessity’.

It’s not just a shop. It’s an experience

When we worked with Selfridges in the Trafford Centre last week I could help but think of these 2 quotes from Selfridge himself

“Treat [the customer] as guests when they come and when they go, whether or not they buy. Give them all that can be given fairly, on the principle that ‘to him that giveth shall be given’.”

“People will sit up and take notice of you if you will sit up and take notice of what makes them sit up and take notice.”

Our work in Selfridges was to run a series of Social Media Workshops in their Social Studio Pop Up

Selfridges 100% understand their market and understand that today’s customers could be tomorrow’s influencers

To put it in very basic terms – Selfridges is perfect for the gram

Altrincham HQ were brought in to run both blogging workshops and instagram workshops

Our Blogging Workshop focused on Finding Your Passion And Creating Your Future. We’d started blogging back in 1999 because of passion of music and suddenly we had 10,000 readers a week

Highlighting how your interests fuel what you write about and that brand “you” is at the centre of your blog

Our Instagram workshop focused Instagram Hacks To Get Your Content Out To A Wider Audience

Highlighting how the content is only the start of your instagram journey and how simple tips can ensure your audience and engagement grows

We focused on how you need to be authentic and patient and that the easiest way to grow your audience is to truly connect with your audience on a personal level

Karen Stevenson who works with a boutique in South Manchester commented of the workshops

“I Attended the Instagram talk at Selfridges. Alex was a great presenter and the talk was so informative and interesting. I learnt loads and it’s definitely had a positive effect on my own Instagraming. Highly recommend”

Alex McCann of Altrincham HQ talks about how experiences like this are the shape of things to come for bricks and mortar

“Selfridges have the experience at the heart of everything they do. This is a sign of things to come in the high street and a real way that bricks and mortar retailers can compete with the threat of online. Online shopping isn’t going to go away and people shop online for convenience, so retailers really need to think of ways they can create an experience instore that can’t be matched online

What is smart about these social media workshops is they merge the 2 worlds. Selfridges audience are immersed in online and social and by helping the audience to grow their own audience the Selfridges online footprint is extended even further

Selfridges have over 846k followers on instagram and there are over half a million posts on Instagram using the #selfridges hashtag

In years to come one of the attendees of these workshops might grow from hundreds of followers to millions of followers

They’re future proofing their business”

Social Media Training for Manchester Arndale, Altrincham Unlimited, The Galleries Wigan and delivered instore experiences for Selfridges in the Trafford Centre
