At Altrincham HQ we often work with businesses who operate very hyper-local businesses.
The sort of restaurants, retailers and B2B businesses whose mantra is #shoplocal #eatlocal #supportlocalbusinesses
When we started out Altrincham HQ our prime objective was to work with purely Altrincham businesses – the businesses that fitted within the area between Lymm Roundabout and South Trafford College – but our success with many local businesses meant we are often approached by businesses out of the area.
Now we have Social Media Management clients in Wilmslow, Northwich, Knutsford, Chorlton and Manchester City Centre and have delivered training further afield than that.
When speaking to clients outside Altrincham often the first question is “We know you clearly work well in Altrincham, but is our town active on social media and will it work?”
Well here’s the graphs for a few local Cheshire / Manchester towns and how often they tweet
NOTES:
* Altrincham & Warrington are both very proactive twitter towns so we could only track the last 2000 tweets over the past week
* All towns have been tracked for actual town name with exception of Sale & Urmston which used the hashtags #saletown #urmston due to outside influence on the main town name
* Dates are the past week from Oct 2nd 2013 – but click each graph to see specific dates
Have a look if your town is below and ask yourself
- Are you part of that local conversation?
and
- Is your message strong enough to get through the noise?

Nice one Alex,
nice to see Altrincham being very proactive, a great reflection on your staunch support of everything #Altrincham
Sale……… It’s the worse town to own a business in for anything seo/twitter related.
I think sale would be more like 600 if we could actually use #Sale.
As a double glazing business we have the worse search terms ever, Windows (Microsoft) & Sale (bargain).
Think we will consider moving down the road to Stretford just so our tweets & website can get seen more.
Good stuff Alex ! Recently noticed the statistics on MPs who Tweet : top of the list was Tim Farron who lives in the middle of his constituency in Milnethorpe (just south of Kendal) and (for example) sends Tweets to publish when and where he holds his “surgeries” : sent a Tweet to Tim saying “good Tweeting” and got a “thank you” very soon after : maybe MPs in Trafford have something to learn in advance of the next election ?
